PURPOSE: An ignition control device for a vehicle and a method thereof are provided to mount an ion current sensing element to an ignition coil of an ignition element for determining an ignition inferiority and controlling an ignition time by the ion current of combustion gas, thereby preventing the knocking and the damage of an engine block in advance. CONSTITUTION: An ignition control device for a vehicle includes an external battery(20), an ignition coil(21) for raising a low voltage current applied from the battery to a high voltage current, a spark plug(22) to be supplied with the high voltage current from the ignition coil for generating flames in a combustion chamber, an ion current sensing element(23) for sensing an ion current in proportion to a voltage by the electric conductivity of combustion gas when the flames are generated by the spark plug, and an electronic control unit(24) for determining the inferior ignition and knocking by the existence of the ion current to output a control signal for controlling an ignition time.
