PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display(LCD) device and a method for manufacturing the same are to form a color filter upon a substrate provided with a switching device, thereby increasing a process margin and achieving a high opening ratio and a high productivity. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of conductive black matrices are formed on a substrate(1). Red, green and blue color filters are formed on the substrate and the black matrices, enclosing predetermined areas of the black matrices and an exposed substrate between the black matrices. A planarization layer is formed on the color filters and the black matrices and is patterned to expose portions of the black matrices. A switching device including a gate electrode, a gate insulating layer, an active layer and a source/drain electrodes(62,64), is formed on the planarization layer and the exposed portions of the black matrices. The first data line and the second data line are connected to the switching device. A passivation layer(66) is formed on the switching device. A pixel electrode(68) is formed on the passivation layer(66), wherein the pixel electrode is connected to the drain electrode of the switching device.
