PURPOSE: An optical pickup apparatus to be possible to make a high density record and reproduction is provided to form high resolution optical spot by possessing a shield member and diffraction member. CONSTITUTION: A light source scans a laser beam of lambda wavelength. An optical path convert device is arranged at an optical path between the light source and a recording media(1), and converts a proceeding path of the incidence light. An objective lens(60) is arranged at an optical path between the optical path convert device and the recording media(1), and focuses the incidence light and forms an optical spot at the recording media(1). An optical detector(70) make the light which is reflected at the recording media(1) and which is made an incidence by way of the objective lens and the optical path convert device. A shield member(30) is arranged at the optical path between the light source and the objective lens, and cuts off a central section of light which is made an incidence from the light source. A diffraction member(50) is arranged at the optical path between the shield member(30) and the objective lens, and diffracts a light which is made an incidence from the light source.
