PURPOSE: A w/o acrylamide-acrylic acid copolymer emulsion is provided, whose viscosity little decrease with time and cohesive force does not change when it is dissolved in water. CONSTITUTION: The w/o acrylamide-acrylic acid copolymer emulsion is prepared by copolymerizing the mixture comprising 100 parts by weight of acrylamide, 0.1-50 parts by weight of acrylic acid, and optionally a water-soluble acryl monomer or a water-soluble vinyl monomer. Preferably the water-soluble acryl monomer or the water-soluble vinyl monomer is selected from the group consisting of acrylates, 2-diamino acid ethyl methylacrylate, 2-diamino acid ethyl acrylate, 2-diamino acid methyl methylacrylate, 2-diamino acid methyl acrylate, acryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride, methacryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride, acryloyloxymethyltrimethylammonium chloride, metaacryloyloxymethyltrimethylammonium chloride, acryloyloxyethyltriethylammonium chloride, methacryloyloxyethyltriethylammonium chloride, acryloyloxyethyldimethylethylammonium ethyl sulfonate, methacryloyloxyethyldimethylethylammonium ethyl sulfonate, poly(vinyl pyrrolidone), and their mixtures.
