CONTROLLER FOR HYBRID VEHICLE

PURPOSE: A controller for a hybrid vehicle is provided to charge a battery device when the residual capacity of the battery device decreases by a prescribed amount from the initial value while the residual capacity is in a decreasing trend. CONSTITUTION: A controller for a hybrid vehicle is provided with a lower-limit threshold setting means(S060) and an upper-limit threshold setting means(S061) both of which respectively set the lower and upper-limit thresholds of the amount of discharge of a battery from the initial residual capacity of the battery when a hybrid vehicle is started to run, a mode setting means(S054) which changes the control of motor to a battery recovering trend when the residual capacity of the battery decreases to the lower-limit threshold, and a mode setting canceling means(S062) which cancels the mode set by the mode setting means(S054) when the residual capacity of the battery reaches the upper-limit threshold. The controller is also provided with a depth-of-discharge detecting means(S063) which detects the amount of discharge of the present residual capacity from the initial residual capacity of the battery. The controller changes the threshold for discriminating the necessity/unnecessity of support for driving engine by means of a motor in accordance with the depth of discharge.
