CONTROLLED OSCILLATOR IN DIGITAL SYMBOL TIMING RECOVERY NETWORK

PURPOSE: A controlled oscillator in a digital symbol timing recovery network is provided to maintain desired linear operation to enhance symbol timing acquisition. CONSTITUTION: A receiver processing a VSB modulation signal storing ground wave broadcast high definition television information contains an AD converter(19) generating a digital data stream. A symbol timing reproduction/segment sync reproduction circuit network supplies a sampling clock which is properly synchronized to the AD converter(19). A phase detector(310) responding to output from segment reproduction is associated with a symbol timing reproducing unit and a segment reproduction generator responds to an equalization signal from an adaptive channel equalizer. A control oscillator generates the sampling clock to the AD converter(19). A control circuit network moves the frequency range of the oscillator so as to maintain a desired linear operation for improving symbol timing acquirement.
