PURPOSE: To reduce a cost by constructing by a PTC material and three electrodes at least provided thereon and by the PTC material operating as more than two PTC elements. CONSTITUTION: A protective element 20A is provided with electrodes 11a, 11b and 11c on a single surface of a PTC material 1', having a rectangular plate shape each having a belt shape. A forming material or a forming method for the electrodes 11a, 11b and 11c is not especially regulated and the electrodes 11a, 11b and 11c can be formed by sputtering and so on. Even though the protective element 20A is constituted of a PTC material 1' and can be manufactured simply, an electrode a, an electrode b and the PTC material 1' between them can be operated as a PTC element 1b and the electrode 11b, the electrode 11c and the PTC material 1' between them can be made to operate as a PTC element 1b. Additionally, since the protecting electrode 11a, 11b and 11c are provided on a single surface of the PTC material 1', they are suitable for surface mounting.
