PURPOSE: To obtain the subject complex in high yield by synthesizing a metal- ligand complex from a metal compound precursor with a ligand precursor adding an elementary metal thereto so as to suppress generation of a metal- ligand complex having larger valence than the valence of the above mentioned metal. CONSTITUTION: This metal-ligand complex is obtained by such a method as synthesis of reacting (A) a metal compound precursor e.g. copper oxide (I) with (B) a ligand precursor e.g. 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedione adding (C) an elemental metal preferably elemental copper powder so as to synthesize the first metal-ligand complex M+n(L-)n (M is a metal; L is a ligand; and n >= 1) e.g. Cu+1 (1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedionate) and to suppress generation of the second metal-ligand complex of the above mentioned metal having >= n valence e.g. Cu+2 (1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedionate)2. In the above mentioned reaction, the component C is preferably added >= 0.01 wt.% based on the component A.
