PURPOSE: A horizontality adjusting apparatus for carriage of vertical looper is provided to prevent strip walking within the looper and lengthen useful life of equipment by allowing the axial gradient of the carriage roll to be measured and adjusted during operation. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises driving side sheaves(13a,13b,13c1,13c2) and working side sheaves(14a,14b,14c1,14c2), and carriage driving side sheaves(21a1,21a2) and carriage working side sheaves(21b1,21b2), which drive a carriage(20) by the winding and unwinding operation of a wire rope(42); and upper adjusting units(11a,11b) to which an ends of the wire rope is fixed, and which adjust the length of the wire rope at the driving or working side in such a manner that the horizontality of the carriage is adjusted by the result of measuring of a level(30) mounted to the driving or working side of the carriage. The wire rope is wound double onto driving side sheaves, working side sheaves, and carriage driving and working side sheaves, and the connected sheaves are arranged to rotate independently.
