PURPOSE: A method for producing trifluoroacetate esters and thioesters is provided, to improve the yield and the purity and to allow the reaction to be carried out at a rather lower temperature. CONSTITUTION: The trifluoroacetate esters are produced by reacting trifluoroacetyl chloride with a compound represented by RXH in the initial presence of a trifluoroacetate compound of the formula(I) at a temperature below 20 deg.C, to obtain a trifluoroacetate compound of the formula(I); and degassing the mixture at a room temperature to remove the by-product HCl and the remaining triacetyl chloride, wherein R is an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or an alkyl group substituted with a haloalkoxy group, and X is O or S. The RXH is preferably ethanol or ethanethiol. The molar ratio C/B is preferably 1.10 : 0.90.
