PURPOSE: An apparatus for forming an image and a method for controlling the same are provided to realize the optimum image according to the characteristic of a printing paper by automatically settling functional settling value of each constructing unit. CONSTITUTION: A photosensitive belt(10) forms an electrostatic latent image. An electrification unit(30) charges the photosensitive belt(10) with electricity. An exposing unit(40) scans a laser beam to the photosensitive belt(10) and selectively reducing electricity for forming the electrostatic latent image of a predetermined pattern. A developing unit(50) applies a developing agent on the electrostatic latent image for developing the electrostatic latent image. A transfer/fixing unit(70) transfers the developed image to a printing paper(90). A paper supply unit(80) supplies printing papers to the transfer/fixing unit(70) successively. An information reading unit(100) detects paper information recorded on the printing paper conveyed by the paper supply unit(80). A control part judges printing suitability of the printing paper(90) with information of the printing paper and settles functional settling value of each constructing unit to realize the optimum image according to the characteristic of the printing paper(90).
