PURPOSE: A composition for external application containing beta-1,6-branched-beta-1,3-glucan and its low molecular beta-1,6-branched-beta-1,3-glucan originated from a mushroom is provided, which has anti-inflammatory and skin-irritation reducing effect. CONSTITUTION: This external application composition contains 0.0001 to 10% by weight of beta-1,6-branched-beta-1,3-glucan originated from a mushroom or its low molecular beta-1,6-branched-beta-1,3-glucan based on the total weight of the composition. The mushroom is Schizophyllum commune Fr., sclerotia and a fragrant mushroom. The composition is formulated into lotion, ointment, gel, cream, patch or spray.
