PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain in high reproducibility on a commercial scale a crystalline hydrate of the subject compound free from organic solvent in its crystal lattice and useful for inhibiting breast cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, and the like, by designing itself to be a crystalline compound having a specific X-ray diffraction pattern. CONSTITUTION: This compound is obtained by designing itself to be a crystalline compound having an X-ray diffraction pattern where there are peaks at 2θ= 7.9±0.2, 10.7±0.2, 14.9±0.2, 15.9±0.2, 18.3±0.2 and 20.6±0.2°(when given using a copper radiation source). The compound is obtained by crystallization of 6-hydroxy - 3 - { 4 - £ 2-(piperidin-1-yl ) ethoxy | phenoxy }-2- ( 4-methoxyphenyl ) benzo £ b | thiophene hydrochloride from tetrahydrofuran. The compound is useful for inhibiting such pathological symptoms as aortic smooth muscle cell hyperplasia, restenosis and prostatic cancer.
