PURPOSE: A device and a method for detecting paint film of a car are provided to solve limit conditions in arrangement of processes, to reduce operator manpower and to prevent occurrence of a quantity of non-coated bodies. CONSTITUTION: A device for detecting paint film of the car includes a hard chip painting robot(20), a painting preventing color sensor and a controller(40). The hard chip painting robot paints hard chip on a body(10) of the car. The painting preventing color sensor senses level of a painted state and converts into electric signal after the hard chip painting robot paints the body. The controller controls the hard chip painting robot and the painting preventing color sensor, analyzes signal input from the painting preventing color sensor, outputs emergency signal if painting is not performed to the extent of memorized range and stopping a conveyer.
