PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for inhibiting ice mass formation is provided to allow ice cubes to be smoothly dispensed by reversely rotating the dispenser motor during storage of ice cubes so as to prevent ice mass formation from the ice cubes. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a relay(SV) attached to a dispenser motor and which is turned on or off by a capacitor(C) and a micro computer(100). When the freezing compartment reaches a predetermined condition, the dispenser is reversely rotates so as to prevent ice mass formation from ice cubes. A method comprises a first step of judging whether a predetermined condition for reversely rotating the dispenser is satisfied; a second step of reversely rotating the dispenser so as to prevent ice mass formation, if the predetermined condition is satisfied; and a third step of forwardly rotating the dispenser and allowing ice cubes to be dispensed, if the predetermined condition is not satisfied or the reverse rotation is completed.
