PURPOSE: A method for automatically changing the volume of a receiving bell in a telephone is provided to prevent the case incapable of answering the phone by the variable volume of the bell when the bell volume is set to a minimal level or off. CONSTITUTION: A method for automatically changing the volume of a receiving bell in a telephone consists of the following steps; reading the level of the bell volume stored in the storing portion and ringing the bell of the first set level; increasing a ring counter at intervals of ringing, raising the level of the bell volume if the ring counter reaches the fixed times setting previously, and determining whether the level of the bell volume is the maximal level; continuously increasing the ring counter if the level of the bell volume is not the maximal level and ringing the bell of the maximal level if the ring counter reaches the fixed times setting previously; otherwise, continuously ringing the bell of the maximal level until the user answers the phone or the sender of the phone hangs up; in case that the user answers the phone or the phone is hung up after ringing of the bell, setting the level stored at the beginning and initializing the ring counter.
