PURPOSE: A method for adding a subscriber board in a switch is provided to automatically add a subscriber board in the case that a subscriber board is mounted in a certain portion in an ATM switch, so that an operation easily adds a subscriber board. CONSTITUTION: When an operator mounts a subscriber board in a certain place, a mounted board generates a message that the board is mounted and transfers to an IMSF which is a soft block capable of managing a subscriber board state(S1). The mounted board operates and generates a signal message which includes a type information and number of the board and transfers to the IMSF which is a corresponding software block(S2). A received message is analyzed(S4). It is checked whether the logic shape information is included in the existing logic shape information(S6). If the logic shape information is not included in the mounted subscriber board, since a new subscriber board is mounted, a shape addition process is performed in the database so that the logic shape information with respect to the subscriber board is used in a software block such as IMSF, SCMF, SCHF, etc.(S7). A stare management with respect to the added subscriber board is performed(S9). It is checked whether a service is provided by the mounted subscriber board, and a service information is transferred to the subscriber board for thereby performing a necessary service(S13).
