Peresters of carboxylic acids are obtained by reacting the appropriate carboxylic acids with organo-peroxyborates, e.g. ortho- or metaperoxyborates of the Formulµ I and II respectively, wherein each of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is a hydrogen atom or a group -R or -OR, R being an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, aralkyl, aralkenyl, or aryl group, provided that at least one of them is an OR group. The ortho-peroxyborate starting materials of the above formula may be obtained by reacting organic hydroperoxides with alkoxyboranes (e.g. trimethyl borate), boric acid or boron oxide. |
