PURPOSE: A refrigerator and method for controlling operation of refrigerator is provided to allow the refrigerator door to be easily opened and prevent the refrigerator body from moving by the force applied to open the door. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator comprises a main body for forming at least one cold room, a door for opening/closing the cold room, a compressor and an evaporator arranged in the main body so as to cool the cold room, a communication hole(30) formed at the main body and which communicates the cold room and the outer surface of the main body, and a pressure equalization valve arranged at the communication hole and which allow the air to flow into the cold room from outside of the main body when the pressure difference between inside of the cold room and outside of the main body is higher than a predetermined level. The pressure equalization valve includes a cut-off plate(31) arranged to contact the inner wall of the cold room, a fixing plate(33) having a plurality of air passage holes(35), and a spring(37) arranged between the cut-off plate and the fixing plate and which elastically restricts open or closed position of the cut-off plate by contracting or extending by the pressure in the cold chamber.
