PURPOSE: A traffic signal control system using a CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) and a method thereof are provided to use a compact terminal apparatus portable or able to be loaded in a vehicle as a traveling traffic control center, by controlling a traffic signal using the CDMA wireless communication. CONSTITUTION: An image sensor(110) senses a traffic condition, and a stop line sensor(120) senses a vehicle which goes over a stop line of a crossroad during waiting for a traffic signal. A central control center(130) controls the traffic signal according to the traffic condition or by being controlled by a user, and a traveling control center(140) controls the traffic signal according to the control of an operator. A main controller(150) controls the traffic signal according to a traffic control signal transmitted through a CDMA wireless network(170) from the central control center or the traveling control center. And, a local controller(160) transmits a traffic condition sensing value transferred from the image sensor to the central control center through the wireless network, and controls the traffic signal according to the traffic control signal transmitted through the wireless network from the central control center and the traveling control center.
