PURPOSE: A client identification method, a client configuration information selection method, a computer program product in a distributed data processing system, and the distributed data processing system are provided to identify a client in the distributed data processing system using the combination of client-specified identifying data defined by the client. CONSTITUTION: A data processing system(200) is a symmetric multiprocessor(SMP) including a plurality of processors(202,204) connected to a system bus(206). A memory controller/cache(208) is connected to the system bus(206). The memory controller/cache(208) provides an interface to a local memory(209). An I/O bus bridge(210) is connected to the system bus(206), and provides an interface to an I/O bus(212). A PCI(Peripheral Component Interconnect) bus bridge(214) connected to the I/O bus(212) provides an interface to a PCI local bus(216). PCI bus bridges(222,224) provide interfaces to PCI buses(226,228). The server(200) performs the connection to a plurality of network computers. A memory map graphics adaptor(230) and a hard disk(232) are directly and indirectly connected to the I/O bus(212).
