PURPOSE: A device is provided to make easy design of the compressor and maintain longer life and higher efficiency despite a high compression ratio. CONSTITUTION: The device comprises a compressor(102,103), a heat exchanger(111,121),expansion valve(151,152,161,162), liquid receiver(181), and four way valve(171). The gas in the liquid receiver flowing through the pipe connected to the inlet of the receiver, is recompressed. The compressor(102,103) for two stage compression compresses a high pressure side and a low pressure side separately with one two stage compressor or two one stage compressors. Two heat exchangers are used each for indoor and outdoor (111,121). The refrigerant in the indoor heat exchanger is condensed,when the multi purpose cooling/heating device is used as a heating pump, meanwhile, the refrigerant in the outdoor heat exchanger is evaporated, when used as a refrigerator, the indoor exchanger is evaporated and the outdoor exchanger is condensed. The flow direction thereof is changed when the heat exchanger is converted to the refrigerator, The expansion valves(131,132,141,142) expand the liquid refrigerant into the gas thereof adiabatically. Two stage compression and expansion are achieved when performed twice. Two stage compression and one stage expansion are also applicable instead of two stage expansion.
