PURPOSE: A paper pickup unit of a printer is provided to prevent the mis-positioning of a printing paper by a pickup roll generated in the process of inserting a paper supply cassette in the printer since the pickup roll is not lowered in the process of the insertion but rapidly lowered when the paper supply cassette is completely inserted, thereby preventing the paper jam and the paper skew. CONSTITUTION: A paper pickup unit of a printer includes a rapid dropping element(100) for rapidly dropping a pickup roll(81) when a paper supply cassette is completely inserted into a printer, to prevent the pickup roll from contacting printing papers in the paper supply cassette in the process of inserting the paper supply cassette, wherein the rapid dropping element includes an elastic piece(110) protruded integrally from a bracket(84) of a pickup roll assembly(80) in parallel with a guide part(85) of the bracket with a predetermined interval and an elastic piece supporting part(120) protruded from a side of an upper part of a pickup lift(90) toward the bracket of the pickup roll assembly for supporting the elastic piece for a predetermined section to prevent the bracket from moving in the section when the pickup lift moves.
