The damping is provided by spring-loaded cam followers pressing against a cam (24) attached to the crankshaft, opposing rotational vibration. The springs combine a mechanical spring (30) and a pneumatic spring (38), formed by the cam followers sliding in a cylinder, coupled to a pneumatic system (42,44). The pneumatic spring is the stronger, and is invoked under particular engine conditions.
