METHOD FOR PRODUCING £BIS-(TRIFLUOROMETHYL)-PHENYL|-ACETIC ACID, ITS ALKYL ESTER AND DIALKYL BIS-(TRIFLUOROMETHYL)-PHENYL|-MALONATE

PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing £bis-(trifluoromethyl)-phenyl|-acetic acids and its alkyl ester from an easily available starting material without the handling of highly toxic carcinogenic substances. CONSTITUTION: £Bis-(trifluoromethyl)-phenyl|-acetic acids (formula(2)) are produced by reacting a proper bromo- or iodo-bis-(trifluoromethyl)-benzene (formula(1)) with a di-(1-4C)- alkyl malonate in the presence of a deprotonation agent and a copper salt; and hydrolyzing and decarboxylating the product in a basic medium. The reaction mixture before the hydrolysis and complete decarboxylation is mixed with water and an acid; heated and distilled under reduced pressure to separate an alkyl £bis-(trifluoromethyl)-phenyl|-acetate. Also, a dialkyl £bis-(trifluoromethyl)- phenyl|-malonate is obtained by column chromatography, etc.
