METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ANALYZING MEDICAL IMAGES

An apparatus and method for facilitating the review of medical images. The system and method utilize a viewer (72) which can display a first image (82) and a decoder (74) which reads a patient code associated with the first image to initiate automated retrieval of supplemental information related to the first image. In preferred embodiments, the patient code is a bar code (86), the decoder is a bar code reader and the supplemental information includes a second image derived from the first image which highlights features or regions of potential medical significance. The methods and apparatus have particular utility in mammography screening.
