TWO-WAY PAGING USING SATELLITE SYSTEM SUBSCRIBER UNITS

A two-way paging system utilizes satellites to achieve a large effective paging service area coverage. A two-way pager (108) is coupled to a subscriber unit (106) in a satellite communications system. The satellite communications system includes at least one satellite (102), and at least one gateway (120). The gateway (120) communicates with a two-way paging infrastructure (132) and relays two-way paging information to and from the two-way pager (108). An effective paging service area is created that is limited only by the coverage of the satellite communications system. In some embodiments, the effective paging service area encompasses the entire globe.
