A finely particulate feed material comprising at least either of fine unaggregated silica particles having an average particle diameter of 40 to 1,000 nm and chain-form aggregates of fine silica particles having an average primary-particle diameter of 10 to 100 nm is mixed with a hydrolyzable metal compound, water, and a solvent to hydrolyze the metal compound in the presence of the finely particulate feed material to thereby prepare a coating fluid. The coating fluid is applied to a glass base and heated to obtain a low-reflection film comprising the fine silica particles and the binder in a ratio of from 60/40 to 95/5 by weight. The film obtained is a single-layer film having a low reflectance, excellent wearing resistance, high strength, and excellent stain removability. By coating a glass base with this low-reflection film, a low-reflection glass article can be provided.
|
