An antenna device comprises a transmitting and receiving antenna unit. The transmitting and receiving antenna unit includes a driven element attached to a case and a helical element connected electrically with, and movable relative to, the driven element. A shaft is provided in the driven element, and the helical element can move along the shaft. Therefore, the transmitting and receiving antenna unit can be independently checked for correct operations before it is attached to the case. A space immediately under the driven element can be part of a compartment occupied by a storage battery, thus increasing battery capacity.
