1,199,689. Controlling clutches. SKF COMPAGNIE D'APPLICATIONS MECANIQUES. 28 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 30908/68. Heading F2L. Disengagement of a motor vehicle spring- applied friction clutch 1a is effected without exerting axial forces on the driving and driven shafts by forming the presser-plate 5a fast with one (the inner) race 13 of a deeply-grooved ballbearing, and forming a cover 22, fast with the flywheel 4, fast with one (the inner), race 23 of a second deeply-grooved ball-bearing, the disengaging force being exerted on the other (outer) race 12 of the first ball-bearing and reacting on the other race 37 of the second ball-bearing. As shown, the outer races are fast with sleeves 30, 31 formed respectively with an annular piston 32 and cylinder 33 operated by hydraulic pressure through bores 34 to force the pressureplate 5a to the left against an annular spring 27. The disengaging force may be pneumatic, mechanical, or electromagnetic. Again, Fig. 2 (not shown), the cover and preaser-plate are mounted on the outer races and the disengaging force acts between the inner races to urge them together. Helical springs replace the annular spring. |
