The invented rotary internal combustion engine (10) is provided with a stationary housing (12) containing a rotary rotor (28) with an annular wall (30), in which there are performed at least two rows of radially extending passages of circular cross section, forming compression and working cylinders (34, 36) of the engine spaced from each other about axis (X) of revolution. Each of the engine cylinders (34, 36) comprises free, reversibly moving and rotary spherical pistons (42, 44). Inside the housing there is placed a stationary cam encompassing all rows of the engine cylinders (34, 36). Each cam is formed by a pair of cam edges (A, B, C, D) having circular shape and axes of which are identical with the axis (X) of revolution of the engine rotary cylinders (34, 36). Each pair of the cam edges (A, B, C, D) are in contact with all spherical pistons (42, 44) of the corresponding row and mutual distance between the cam edges varies during one revolution by 360 degrees so that the spherical pistons (42, 44) move at uniform velocity inside each cylinder (34, 36) of the engine.
