The device has a fan device accommodated in the external housing for the supply of the breathing gas which comprises a motor, an impeller driven by this and a fan housing in which the impeller is accommodated. A control device controls of the speed or delivery power of the fan device and a mains part makes available the electrical power needed to drive the motor. The mains part and the control device are designed on extended circuit board elements (2) of large area and the circuit board elements are located so that these extend along an upper essentially horizontal inner side of the external housing as well as an essentially vertical inner side of the external housing.
