An expanding pulley comprises a support 2 fixed to an axle 1 and bearing a slotted plate 3, through which arms 4, attached to a slidable ring 6 are movable. Pulley sectors 7 are urged into engagement with the plates by a spring 8. The pulley diameter is varied during rotation by raising or lowering the arms 4 by means of a bearing 28 movable along the axle. The bearing is displaced when a threaded sleeve (26, Fig. 3, not shown) is rotated at a faster rate than a threaded portion (17) of the axle by means of a pawl (16) selectively engaging a ratchet on the sleeve. |
