The turbine comprises a split casing 1,4 with stator blades 5, and a one piece cast rotor 2 having rows of blades 6 and a central rotor portion 7. The blade surfaces are finely grooved and coated with catalytic metals e.g. platinum by ion deposition for decomposing IC engine exhaust gases. On convex sides, the blade grooves run from leading to trailing edges, whereas on concave sides they run parallel to the leading edge to promote turbulence for enhancing the catalysing action. Output from the turbine shaft 3 drives a similarly arranged compressor which supplies, through a cooler, reservoirs which may be in vehicle hollow body members. Compressor output may drive alternator pneumatic motor before use in airconditioning.
