A firearm having an inertia striker assembly (48) which comprises a part of the firing mechanism includes a striker (60) and a generally U-shaped spacer (62) which straddles a portion of the striker and engages an abutment surface (58) to nullify the biasing force upon the striker by an associated striker spring (64) as the striker moves toward its striking position.
