A tube coupling (10) which allows a fluid tube (76) to be easily connected to and disconnected therefrom includes a cylindrical coupling body (12), a chuck (54) disposed in the coupling body and having engaging portions (62a SIMILAR 62d) on its distal end for gripping a fluid tube (76) inserted in the coupling body (12), a guide member (38) for holding the chuck (54) therein for sliding movement in a predetermined axial stroke, the guide member (38) having cylindrical slanted inner surfaces (52a SIMILAR 52d) in substantial alignment with a proximal portion of the engaging portions (62a SIMILAR 62d) of the chuck (54), a release bushing (66) disposed in the coupling body (12) for insertion between the fluid tube (76) and the chuck (54) for spreading the engaging portions (62a SIMILAR 62d) out of gripping engagement with the fluid tube (76), a gasket (24) disposed in the coupling body (12) for sealing a distal end of the fluid tube (76) with respect to an inner wall (18) of the coupling body (12). The chuck (54) has bulging portions (60a SIMILAR 60d) projecting radially outwardly from the proximal portions of the engaging portions (62a SIMILAR 62d). When the bulging portions (60a SIMILAR 60d) are drawn into the guide member (38), the bulging portions (60a SIMILAR 60d) are slidingly engaged and pushed by the slanted inner surfaces (52a SIMILAR 52d), causing the engaging portions (62a SIMILAR 62d) of the chuck (54) to be displaced radially inwardly into gripping engagement with the fluid tube (76). The axial stroke which the chuck (54) is slidable is limited by the guide member (38) to a range in which the engaging portions (62a SIMILAR 62d) are kept out of contact with the gasket (24). <IMAGE> |
