The method operates a dc motor wherein, in normal operation, a constant voltage is fed to the coils of the motor via stationary brushes and rotating commutator segments. The motor is separated in time from the constant voltage and is actuated by an alternating voltage of higher frequency such that the motor does not rotate and the current flows through the collector coils via a metallic terminal between the collectors. Preferably the dc normal operation and the ac operation are carried out consecutively. The method may involve switching between the ac and dc modes of operation repeatedly. The method may be used with a programmable, battery powered electronic heater thermostat. |
