The method involves detecting up-shifting and, if so, determining whether a throttle flap opening is under an energy or current supply switching test line. As long as the current connection is under the test line, the variation of the throttle flap opening in the closure direction is determined, to see if it is below a given threshold. The up-shifting is reduced, if the variation in throttle opening is less then the threshold.
