PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode for solid polymer fuel cell and its manufacturing method, that give good water repellency to a catalyst layer containing electrolyte, without obstructing gas diffusion necessary for the reaction while maintaining the mechanical strength of the electrode. SOLUTION: An electrode used for a solid polymer fuel cell, electrode base materials 24a, 24b are subjected to water repellency treatment. The pores of the electrode base material 24a, 24b are filled with a precious metal catalyst having carbon powder as carrier and are impregnated with electrolytic solution, and form catalyst layers 25a and 25b that are joined with solid polymer electrolyte membrane 21. The thickness of the catalyst layers 25a, 25b are made smaller than the thickness of electrode base material 24a, 24b. |
