Sulfide compound and processes for producing thiochroman derivative and dihydrobenz(B)thiophene derivative

A sulfide compound represented by formula [1] (wherein R<1> and R<2> each represents halogeno or C1-4 alkyl; and R<3> to R<7> each represents hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl, provided that R<5> and R<6> may be and R<6> and R<7> may be bonded to each other to form a three- to seven-membered hydrocarbon ring). The compound is useful as a material for producing a 6-acetylthiochroman derivative or 5-acetyldihydrobenz[b]thiophene derivative and for producing a thiochroman-6-carboxylic acid derivative or dihydrobenz[b]thiphene-5-carboxylic acid derivative. Also provided are industrially advantageous processes for producing the two carboxylic acid derivatives. These processes impose a reduced load on the environment.
