PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit for liquid crystal projector unit or the like, that can well cope with size reduction and can take full countermeasures against heat. SOLUTION: This device consists of a concave reflection mirror (20) made of glass and a short-arc type discharge lamp (10) disposed therein, and the concave reflection mirror (20) has a total transmission not less than 35% for wavelengths between 1 to 3.5μm and the linear transmission of 50% or lower.
