PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a demolishing method for a steel tower type highrise chimney capable of reducing the work cost and allowing the work to be conducted in a limited work area. SOLUTION: This demolishing method includes a first process releasing the coupling between a stack shell 1 and a steel tower 2 and installing a guide capable of lowering the stack shell 1, a second process for supporting the stack shell 1 with a jack device 6 and cutting and removing the lower section by the prescribed length by concurrently cutting the cross section of the stack shell 1 formed with an iron sheet and a lining material, a third process for lowering and grounding the stack shell 1, a fourth process for lifting the jack device 6 to support the stack shell 1 again, and a fifth process for demolishing and removing the steel tower 2 from a tower crane 5 in sequence from the apex side in succession to the demolition of the stack shell 1 by the first process through the fourth process repeated to demolish and remove the stack shell 1 in sequence from the lower side.
