PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a method and a device for controlling brake capable of suppressing an overcurrent which is generated by switching of a rotational direction of a DC motor when executing the brake control of the DC motor for driving guillotine cutter. SOLUTION: The brake control device is provided for the DC motor 14 that rotates in one direction in order to drive the reciprocating guillotine cutter 11. The brake control device comprises a means for generating an off-signal that indicates that the power source of the DC motor 14 is turned off in order to stop the guillotine cutter 11 and a means that applies a driving voltage, of which the polarity is inverted with respect to the driving voltage applied before the power source is turned off, to the DC motor 14 for a predetermined time period for applying the polarity inverted voltage after receiving the off- signal and waiting for a predetermined period of stand-by time.
