A subscriber equipment set comprises a fixed part, cordless, home base station 40 (FP), a dual mode phone 42 and optionally, cordless home appliances 43. The FP includes a SIM, containing subscription data, which it uses to register and communicate with a base transceiver station 6 (BTS) of a cellular communication system. When communicating with the dual mode phone and home appliances, the FP uses a cordless link 41. The FP may be required to authenticate the individual dual mode phones and appliances with the cellular BTS 6 and may receive authentication therefor from a cordless service node 14 (CSN) of the cellular network. When calling the FP from the PSTN 10, individual home appliances or a dual mode phones may be addressed by making use of the caller line identification (CLI) associated with the call. Calls to the dual mode phone are automatically routed via the FP when the phone is in the FP's vicinity, such routing being performed in response to a control signal sent to the CSN. The dual mode phone also contains a SIM so that it may communicate with the cellular network when is not in the vicinity of its home base station. |
