PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recorder capable of reducing the degradation of writing characteristics caused by spherical aberration and having good recording and reproducing characteristics. SOLUTION: A spherical aberration detecting/compensating system 6 detects spherical aberration caused by the thickness error of a transparent substrate employing a spherical aberration detecting section 61. An absolute amount converting means (a full wave rectifying section 62) converts the relative amount of the detected spherical aberration into an absolute amount and supplies it to a spherical aberration compensating amount generating section 63. The section 63 varies either one or both of the pulse width and the amplitude relative to the pulse shape to which recording information is to be written into an optical recording medium is converted based on the absolute amount of obtained spherical aberration and controls enable signals or the amount of current control to be supplied to a write current source. |
