PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus therefor capable of efficiently producing a clean synthetic natural gas by reaction of the carbon of a carbonaceous material with hydrogen formed using inexpensive water as feedstock. SOLUTION: This apparatus has such a scheme that a plasma cathode 48 and a tubular plasma anode 26 are set up inside housings 14, 16, 18 to provide a plasma reaction chamber 76, which is then packed with a granular carbonaceous material 78 followed by generating a plasma inside the reaction chamber 76 and catalytically reacting the carbonaceous material 78 with hydrogen in the presence of the plasma to obtain the objective methane. |
