PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water absorbent fabric comprising a composite false twist textured yarn composed of only polyester fibers and having high water absorptivity such as that of cotton and quick-drying properties of the polyester fibers. SOLUTION: This water absorbent fabric comprises a composite false twist textured yarn composed of (A) a polyester ultrafine multifilament yarn having <=1 dtex single filament fineness and >=50 number of filaments and (B) a polyester multifilament yarn having 2-4 dtex single filament fineness. In the composite false twist textured yarn, the multifilament yarn (B) forms loops to form a sheath part and a part of the ultrafine multifilament yarn (A) is exposed to the sheath part surface to form a core part. The fabric is composed by making the composite false twist textured yarn having water absorptivity of >=40 mm water absorption height account for >=10% of the fabric area. The fabric has the water absorptivity of >=20 cm2 waterdrop diffusion area after 60 s and quick-drying properties of <=60% residual water content after 30 s.
