METHOD OF PRODUCING ACRYLIC COPOLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a copolymer that has excellent filterability without needing salting-out operation and heat treatment in the polymerization of a monomer mixture mainly including acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride and a sulfonic acid group-bearing monomer. SOLUTION: When a monomer mixture mainly comprising acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride and a sulfonic acid group-containing vinyl monomer is subjected to suspension polymerization, a water-soluble polymerization initiator is added to start polymerization under the condition in which the amount of the water is 20-100 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the monomers. After >=40 wt.% of the sulfonic group-containing vinyl monomer are converted to the polymer, water is added to convert the polymerization condition in which the amount of water is adjusted to 100 to 500 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the monomers, further the polymerization is continued.
