PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foam base material attaching structure and an attaching method, simple in structure, reducing the part cost of a foam base material, assembly man-hours and working man-hours, facilitating assembly of the foam base material, and avoiding assembly errors. SOLUTION: When this foam base material which is expanded by heating is fixed in position inside the closed cross section of a structure member of a vehicle body or the like, a recess is formed along the direction of extension of the structural member and the foam base material is inserted into the recess. The foam base and its nearby portions are then heated to a predetermined temperature to expand the foam base material to fix the foam base material between projections inside the closed cross section.
