PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material testing device which can carry out various kinds of material tests by applying a load to a material test piece and simply control programs corresponding to each material test. SOLUTION: A material testing device is provided with a load applying device 13 for applying a load to a material test piece 14, a controlling part 1 for controlling the load applying device 13, and a memory part 23 equipped with a program storage part. The controlling part 1 controls the load applying device 13 based on programs memorized in the program storage part for carrying out a various kinds of material tests. Among the programs, there are a common part common for all material tests and individual parts specific for each material test. Only when the individual part is permitted to be used, the common part and the individual part are executed to carry out the corresponding material test. Thus, the permission for each individual part can be designated and controlled.
